Dr Asha Rajini was the oldest female runner at the OOTYULTRA 2018 first edition. This 62 years young veterinarian doctor from Chennai successfully completed the 30Km category which was also her longest run to date.
She was keen sportsperson and runner in her school days. However, this passion for running took a backseat as her demanding profession coupled with the responsibilities of family life took precedence.
Dr Rajini is a breast cancer survivor (an inspirational story in itself) and a diabetic. Strict dietary control coupled with her future plunge back into running has helped in managing her medical conditions.
Post-retirement in 2015 she resumed running, initially as a solo runner. She now trains with the Bessie Dreamers, a chapter of the Dream Runners group in Chennai. Even though she is the oldest runner in her group, she gives everyone else a run for their money when it comes to pace and speed. Dr Rajini has completed several half marathon events since she resumed running. Her half marathon timing at the recent TWCM was an excellent 2:15. She is now looking to run her first full marathon by the end of 2018.
The OOTYULTRA was her first experience running in the hills. We wish this inspirational lady all the best not only for completing her first ever longest run event but also to her future running endeavors.
